In Greek mythology, the gorgonians were formed from the blood of Medusa which dripped onto seaweed and turned it into stone. The Nereids gathered up the branches and fastened them to the rocks, creating enchanted underwater worlds where reality and legend intertwine.
The contorted forms of the gorgonians, twisted and broken by the powerful sea currents, symbolise human strength and resilience. They represent the ability of men and women to rise to challenges and rebuild their lives in the face of adversity, to explore new avenues and grasp the opportunities offered by life while remaining true to their own identities.
The Gorgonian Forest is set against a harsh, rugged backdrop that opens onto a multiplicity of cavities, some illuminated and some dark, the perfect metaphor for life’s events and the continuous journey of the soul in its quest for the infinite.
